Control

The new film focusing on Joy Divisions Ian Curtis through life, Joy Division and death basically. Deborah (Ian's wife) helped write this story. Deborah also wrote 'Touching from a distance' about Ian's life which they seemed to have taken a lot from.

It's interesting seeing the difference between the portrayal of Curtis in '24 hour party people' compared to that in 'Control'. It's so different. The angle of Control is very dark and deep. The whole film is shot in black and white which adds to effect and Sam Riley plays Ian and does an amazing job but I much preferred Sean Harris' efforts in 24 hour party people.

Control is much more focused on Curtis' depression and the build up to his suicide rather than the success he had and the legend he left behind, although it could be argued that this is due to his legend being apparent later on. The black and white perspective adds to the dull and depressing tone.

However, this is a stunning film and extremely emotionally moving and poignant. I wont say too much though, just watch it.
